Accepting these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and rediZOO, LLC ("rediZOO", "we", "us"), which runs Rook. By using rook.work or a school's Rook site, you agree to them. If you're accepting on behalf of a school, you confirm you're authorized to do so. If a school has a signed agreement with us, such as an order form or subscription agreement, that agreement controls where it differs from these terms.
The service
Rook helps colleges and universities publish student opportunities, such as on-campus jobs, and helps students find and apply for them. Staff can manage postings on the web or by email. Each school gets its own Rook site.
Accounts and sign-in
People sign in with their school's single sign-on or with single-use links sent to their school email. Keep your email account secure and don't share sign-in links. School administrators decide who is invited and which roles they have, and are responsible for keeping that list up to date. To help a school set up, Rook staff can sign in to its site with limited, logged support access, as our privacy policy describes.
Schools' responsibilities
A school using Rook is responsible for:
- having the right to put its staff and student information into Rook, and meeting its own obligations under FERPA and other laws;
- making sure its postings are accurate and comply with employment, wage, and equal opportunity laws; and
- its hiring decisions. The school, not Rook, is the employer.
Students' responsibilities
Give accurate information when you apply. Applying through Rook doesn't guarantee an interview or a job; each school and department makes its own decisions.
Subscriptions and payment
- Rook sets up each school's site, and the school can finish setting it up before paying. Student features go live once the school subscribes, or during a free trial or free access Rook gives it.
- Schools can pay by card through Stripe, or by invoice or purchase order.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
- Fees aren't refundable except where the law or a school's signed agreement says otherwise. Prices don't include taxes.
Acceptable use
Don't use Rook to:
- post opportunities that are unlawful, misleading, or discriminatory;
- collect information about students or staff for any purpose other than the school's use of Rook;
- scrape, copy, or resell Rook or its content;
- probe, overload, or get around Rook's security, or access another school's data;
- upload malware or send spam; or
- impersonate anyone or misrepresent your connection to a school.
Your content and data
Each school owns the information it and its people put into Rook. Students' applications are shared with the school they applied to. You give us permission to host, process, and display that information only as needed to provide Rook, as our privacy policy describes. While they can sign in, a school's campus admins can download its reports, its applications and hires as spreadsheets, and any one student's record. For a full export of everything, ask us, including in the 90 days after a school leaves Rook.
AI-assisted drafting
Rook can draft posting text from what staff write, using Anthropic's Claude. Drafts can contain mistakes, so staff must review them before publishing and are responsible for what they publish. Student information is never sent to AI services.
Third-party services
Rook works with services run by others, including Stripe for payments. Their own terms apply when you use them. Photos on rook.work come from Unsplash under the Unsplash License and are credited to their photographers. We aren't responsible for other websites we link to.
Our intellectual property
Rook's software, design, and brand belong to rediZOO. These terms don't give you any rights to them except to use Rook as intended. If you send us feedback, we may use it without owing you anything.
Availability and changes
We work to keep Rook available and to schedule maintenance for quiet times, but we can't promise it will always be uninterrupted or error-free. We improve Rook continually and may change features. We'll give schools notice before removing anything they rely on.
Suspension and termination
- If a school's subscription lapses, its job board and applying are paused, staff can't publish postings, and Rook stops acting on staff email. Staff can still decline applications and cancel interviews. Rook still emails students about a canceled interview they had booked, and about a decline if the school has that automatic email switched on. Its data is kept, and staff can still sign in to see what's there and administrators to fix billing.
- We may suspend accounts that break these terms or put other people or schools at risk.
- When a school leaves Rook, we keep its data for 90 days, so the school can ask us for an export or come back, and then delete it, as our privacy policy describes.
Disclaimers
Except as a school's signed agreement provides, Rook is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits or data. Our total liability for any claim about Rook is limited to the fees the school paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict of law rules, except where a public institution's governing law requires otherwise.
Changes to these terms
We'll post changes here and update the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll give subscribing schools at least 30 days' notice. Continuing to use Rook after changes take effect means you accept them.
